First Snow

The mountain peak rises sharply against a steel-blue sky, its crown dusted in a fresh layer of early snow that gleams white against the rugged stone — a quiet announcement that winter is coming, even as the world below hasn't yet let go of autumn. At its base, golden aspen leaves tremble on their branches in the cool breeze, stubbornly brilliant, while patches of tawny grass still cling to the meadows, caught in that fleeting, magical moment when three seasons share the same breath.
